The Education in Finlandia vs Indonesia

Education is one of the hot topics worth talking about. Anyone who is sure to crave a good and competent education. And it is a task that is not easy for each country to ensure that they have built an education system that people have been wanting all this time.  Although according to the Finland Pearson Group assessment no longer ranks top, there are still many who think that the Finnish education system remains the best.

Now, I would like to explain about education system in Finlandia and  how this system can be far different from the education system in Indonesia. if compared, the differences in the education system in Indonesia and Finlanda are like heaven and earth, very different. Why did  I say like that? These are the differencens :

  1.  Finland : children just go to school at the age of 7 years.
Children in Finland just go to school at the age of 7 years, they are not allowed to play playgroup or the like. The Finnish government actually gives the task to parents to carry out Early Childhood Education. The reason is that from babies up to 6 years of age is a critical period for the early stages of child development. The Finnish government gives Maternity Package for every father and mother when he has a baby that contains guidelines for educating their children.
Indonesia :  two-year-olds have entered playgroup, cared for by a babysitter, and parents do not monitor child development carefully.

     2. Finland : does not classify students wich achievement scores or economic levels.

There are no associations with students with the mention of regular classes and acceleration especially VIP. The quality of each school is not so different that there is no gap between students. Parents need not worry about school fees. Finland bears the cost of education in schools up to Strata 1 colleges including private schools. Learning opportunities are opened wide and borne by the government. There is no need to worry about not receiving a diploma because it has not paid or the pressure of not going up to class.
Indonesia : students are divided into several "classes", the quality progress in each school is different. Many terms are "rich school" and "smart school children".

    3.  Finland : teachers are Master Degree graduates with the best graduates

In order to get quality education quality, Finland does not hesitate to do strict selection to become a teacher. Let alone high school teachers, elementary school teachers at least are masters degree graduates. Even Finland only took 10 best students from 10 universities. only about 1 in 10 applicants were successfully accepted as teachers. In the 1970s, 80% of the teacher academies were closed, so that only the best were up to now.Teachers in Finland can be so creative and innovative because the selection process from the prospective teacher and the process of professional development is done well. Finnish teachers must go through a LPTK selection that amounts to only a few masters and post a rigorous thesis and training for 5 years (p. 120). That is why people trust the teachers so much to implement their innovations in the classroom (p. 122). After all, teachers in Finland are professions that are highly valued socially and financially.

Indonesia : there are still many low-paid teachers, underestimated, many teachers who do not understand the discipline of developmental psychology.

    4.  Finland: there is no test until the age of 16.

When Finnish children go to school, there is no obligation to take national exams, except when he wants to go to college. Finland does not adhere to the GERM (Global Education Reform Movement) which emphasizes education towards competition and competition. Learning in class also takes place relaxed without tension.

Indonesia :  to enter elementary school only children must take a test and compete with their peers.

    5.  Finland : there is no homework

Finish children don't need to go home with assignments that are not relevant to their hobbies and pleasures. They simply develop the fields they like, explore their inner potential so they can achieve achievements. They also do not need to take the leaderboard or do dozens of questions in class. One class only contains 15-17 students so that the classroom situation is more conducive to learning. So that every student can consult the teacher freely.

Indonesia : one class contains 40 students and all of them go home with a pile of tasks that take up their playing time. Class activities only listen to lectures and work on dozens of questions

So those are the differences education system between Finlandia and Indonesia. In the end I hope the education system in Indonesia will get better in the future. I do apologize if there is mistake in my writing.

Kiitos~
